About the Department

The Department of Agronomy at Kansas State University provides statewide leadership in teaching, research, and extension in crop, soil, and range sciences. Weed science, crop breeding, climatology, genetics, environmental science, water science, and protecting soil and water resources are also important components of the mission of the department. Advances in these sciences have major impact on transforming the bounty of the natural resources of Kansas into the present standard of living enjoyed by its people, as well as providing significant advantages at the national and international levels.

What's New in Agronomy at K-State
"New Technologies for Crop Production"
Please join us for the 2013 K-State Agronomy Field Day on August 16th, at the North Agronomy Farm. "New Technologies for Crop Production is the theme of the event, and it will feature some of the most exciting new technologies in agriculture today.

K-State is leading the nation in research on the use of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) in agriculture. At the field day, you’ll see how sUAS and other optical technology can be used in crop scouting to find trouble spots in fields quickly. The field day will also feature demonstrations of equipment used in research on climatic stresses in crop production.

  • Location: North Agronomy Farm in Manhattan (located on the North side of Kimball, across from Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
  • Time:Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., tours 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
    • A lunch will be provided, with a bonus sUAS equipment demonstration following. There is no charge, but we do ask that you register in advance. A link to registration is not yet available, however we will get it posted for you as soon as possible.
