GIS Web Application Developer:
The GIS Web Application Developer will be responsible for the design, creation, and maintenance of custom Web GIS mapping and modeling applications associated with the Climate Change and Mitigation Grant awarded to Kansas State University through the NSF Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). This position will provide critical functional linkages between a multidisciplinary group of researchers, the Kansas State University Weather Data Library, and the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory (GISSAL) at Kansas State University. Expectations include working with project managers and researchers to identify needs and opportunities for GIS Web applications that would serve diverse user groups such as the scientific community, agricultural producers, educators, and the general public. Candidates are also expected to collaborate with a GIS Data Manager in the creation and maintenance of an online geoportal to promote the discovery and use of project geospatial data resources, as well as the GIS-based Web services needed for application development and deployment. Successful candidates at the ASSISTANT SCIENTIST level should have completed, at minimum, a Master’s degree by the time of appointment. Post-doctoral candidates are encouraged to apply at the RESEARCH ASSOCIATE rank as ample opportunities exist to publish results of innovative basic and applied research. Web/Database Developer:
The selected candidate will work independently to manage and develop project databases for complex high-throughput phenotypic data, large genomic datasets, field data and germplasm resources and ensure data integrity and reliable, rapid access to data. This selected candidate will also develop and maintain web interfaces for project databases and project websites. The selected candidate will interact with outside collaborators and research groups to learn and implement new database structures and help develop community database standards. GIS Data Manager:
The GIS Data Manager will be responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of digital geographic data associated with the Climate Change and Mitigation Grant awarded to Kansas State University through the NSF Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). This position will provide critical functional linkages between a multidisciplinary group of researchers, the Kansas State University Weather Data Library, and the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory (GISSAL) at Kansas State University. Expectations include working with individual researchers to harvest data/information, applying existing and developing new methods to enhance the use of digital geospatial data for expert and lay audiences, developing and implementing quality control procedures for GIS products and services including metadata documentation, development of an online geoportal to promote the discovery and use of project geospatial data resources, and assisting with the creation and maintenance of GIS-based Web services and Web mapping applications. Weather Data Library Manager:
The selected candidate will work independently to coordinate, plan and operate the Kansas Weather Data Library (WDL). The candidate will provide critical functional linkages between the Kansas WDL and regional climate centers, National Climatic Data Center, National Weather Service, state and federal agencies, researchers at KSU and other institutions and agricultural producers within Kansas. The candidate is expected to develop routine protocols to ensure efficient, effective and timely service is provided to WDL clientele and to assist in the implementation of agricultural meteorology models for agricultural value-added decision tools.
