Weed science, crop breeding, climatology, genetics, environmental science, water science, and protecting soil and water resources are also important components of the mission of the department. K-State Soil Judging Team Wins Contest 
Kansas State University’s Soil Judging Team won first place overall at the 2008 National Soil Judging Contest hosted by the University of Rhode Island in mid-April. This marks the first time the K-State Soil Judging Team has taken first place overall in the national contest.
